Neighborhood Crime Watch

The Piney-Z Neighborhood Crime Watch Committee is very active, with Jennifer Jerit and Kathy Warr serving as co-coordinators. Several residents were inspired by the TPD presentation to volunteer for the committee. Participation requires very little effort, but has big rewards. Please consider joining in this important venture by contacting one of the co-chairs or calling HOA President, Dr. Patrick Gray, at 656-8836. Also, be sure to register to receive Piney-Z announcements via email.

Tallahassee Police Department Presentation

The Tallahassee Police Department presented information on burglaries and the Neighborhood Watch program at our Homeowners Association meeting on December 11. TPD was concerned about the sudden increase in burglaries in the Piney Z community. Many have been what are considered "no force" burglaries. This means that a door or window was left open or unlocked making the opportunity for entry much easier. Please read the Lock Before You Leave flyer (PDF).

At the meeting, some PineyZ residents described a suspect in the Fielcrest area as an African-American male, approximately 5'9", with slender build; seen wearing a black skull-cap, long-sleeved black shirt with multi-colored loose, pajama-like pants (blue and/or purple patterns). Seen on foot and/or small bicycle. There may be more than one criminal at work. We do not know if he/they are armed. Please use caution and follow the advice provided in the literature below.

Our Landscapers Are Participating in Crime Watch

Please be aware that the Piney-Z Landscaping Company is John Hurst Outdoor Services. Mr. Hurst and his crew service our green spaces, the roundabouts, entrances, the amenities grounds and the Fieldcrest town homes. They also handle our irrigation needs.

Lance Rogers, the Property Manager, and Mr. Hurst would like you to know that John Hurst Outdoor Services considers itself, not only our landscaping company, but partners with us for the good of the neighborhood. Mr. Hurst and his crew are aware of the crime concerns and are on the lookout for any suspicious activity when they are on duty. Until some of the recent crimes are resolved, Mr. Hurst's crew will wear orange vests while working in Piney-Z. We do not have information on the companies and individuals that Piney-Z residents employ and invite on to their property and in to Piney-Z.

Mr. Hurst's company is fully licensed and insured and all his employees submit to background checks. It is recommended that you not employ any company or individuals to come on to your property without requiring that they be licensed, insured, and that their employees submit to background checks.
